Office Space

This was really fun to work on. Aside from it being one of my favorite movies, the process of getting it done took awhile and was really eye opening. It definitely tested my perfectionism, especially since it needed to be done by a certain date. 

While Jose was filming, I went to the Jazz School in Berkeley to record some foley. We chose this scene because there's no dialog and basically no sound beside the rap song, so it was perfect to add effects. Unfortunately, I didn't end up using much of the foley, and ended up using a lot of apple loops. 

The hardest and most time consuming part was getting the footsteps just right, and while they definitely aren't perfect, I'm happy with the outcome.

I started this blog to post some of the projects I've been working on at work. And, hopefully, to show off future projects. It's been a slow start, but I think I'll keep it up. 

For those of you who don't know, I'm interning at BAYCAT in the city. The internship is actually ending soon (where did the time go?) but I've done a couple of projects where I learned a lot. Using mostly Soundtrack Pro (with whom I have a love/hate relationship) and Garage Band (ugh.) The biggest project, which I'll start again on after the holidays, is doing post sound for a 20 minute short film we worked on non stop only a couple of weeks ago. I learned a lot about capturing live sound for a film, trouble shooting, and learning how to deal and coming to terms when something doesn't work and you don't get the sound you want. 

It's been a lot of work and hard to juggle with school, but I've been having a lot of fun and I'll be sad to leave. 

This piece "Adventures in Parking" was my first project at work. Well, technically it's the second. The first was a podcast I did about a sandwich shop up the street. But, it isn't very good and I hate the sound of my voice, so I doubt you'll ever hear it.

At any rate, my man Jose did the photos and editing in Final Cut Pro, while I experimented with ADR and Apple Loops in Soundtrack Pro.

Hello, world.

I wake up to hurried footsteps from above. back and forth, faster each direction. a slam on the door, a rev of the engine, and poof. "At least the house isn't on fire" i think to myself. i wonder why our upstairs neighbors are in such a hurry, so late at night. but, i'm awake now. i can hear more cars on the road, it's not late, it's early. 5 or 6 am, but it's pitch black. The sun might be coming up, but it's impossible to tell in this dreary basement. i get up to check the time. 6:05am. i look in the mirror. my hair is long and ridiculously out of control. i contemplate grabbing some scissors, but i don't cave in. i make plans. it's early! i'll get a head start on.. things. anything. finish that song. finish some cleaning. start something new.

i go back to bed. i rustle around, trying subtly to wake her up. she groans, adorable and angry. she turns over. i fall asleep. i wake up almost 4 hours later. she wakes me up with a kiss, all dressed in my cardigan. it looks better on her. her hair's wet from the shower. half asleep, i know she's leaving. starting her day. 

it's too cold to do anything now. 

it's a new year tomorrow, but i'm expecting more of the same.
